The Educational Supervisor: Sonal Patel qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004 and moved back to London for vocational training. She was a dentist in her first practice for 2 years before moving to another practice for 12 years. She took over the Broadwater Dental Practice in 2018 and undertook a modernisation programme investing in upgrading the infrastructure and new technology. She passed the MFGDP (RCSEng) exam in 2007 which consolidated her knowledge and completed a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry (RCSEng) in 2011 which allowed her to develop her specialist interest. She is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education which exposed her to different teaching and mentoring styles. She firmly believes that on-going training and education is fundamental to career development and will look to support her FD in this aspect.
The Practice: Broadwater Dental Practice was established over 40 years ago and has served generations of local families. It is a mixed NHS and private practice and has the highest number of Google reviews in Stevenage with an average rating of 4.8/5 (last checked 12:00, 21/05/20), priding itself in the care that patients receive. There are currently four surgeries. There is a dedicated decontamination /sterilisation room, staff room, large waiting room with flat screen television, a study area and a reception area. The practice is fully computerised with SOE software and clinipads meaning we are completely paper-less. We also have digital x-rays. In addition to the Principal Dentist, there are three long-term associate dentists, one hygienist, an implantologist and an oral surgeon. The Area: The practice is based in Stevenage which is a town in Hertfordshire, England, 28 miles north of London. The commute by car from Barnet is approximately 25 minutes , from Stanmore/Finchley/Harrow/Enfield/Rickmansworth is 40-45 minutes, The practice is close to junction 7 of the A1(M), between Letchworth Garden City to the north and Welwyn Garden City to the south. Stevenage has a population of 87,700, and the practice is based in a residential area which means there is ample off-street parking, and close to small shops.
