Stafford & Stoke Scheme is based at 2 sites, Royal Stoke Hospital in Stoke and County Hospital in Stafford. The latter does have a hands-on facility but we may find due to recent changes, we may resort to accessing the state-of-the-art educational facilities at the new Birmingham Dental School set up a few years ago. We have a cohort of experienced and committed educational supervisors whose practices are carefully selected to ensure that they meet the expected standards of a training practice. Study days are designed to generate a safe protected learning environment enabling Foundation Dentists (FD) to support each other throughout the year and beyond. Speakers are selected for their expertise in the field but also their ability to communicate this knowledge in an interesting and accessible way.
The Training Programme Director is Shaam Shamsi. Shaam has nearly 26 years of experience in General Dental Practice and over 20 years of experience in Foundation Training. He has been fortunate to have kept in touch will the majority of the Trainees he has mentored and guided over the last 2 decades due to the ‘bond’ formed during training years. His experience extends to lecturing and teaching nationally and internationally mainly in the Medico-legal side of the profession. His also sits for the GDC as a Fitness to practice panel member, as a Risk Management presenter for Dental protection and as Specialist Advisor for the CQC. He is blessed to have acquired this wealth of experience; and mentors new graduates with this ethos of ethics and professionalism giving them a good foundation and start to their careers.
