At Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) we provide acute hospital services to Harlow and the surrounding communities, from Buckhurst Hill in the south to Saffron Walden in the North. We serve a population of about 350,000 people.

Our main hospital is in central Harlow, and we also provide patient services from St Margaret's Hospital in Epping, Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford and the Rectory Lane Centre in Loughton.

We are extremely proud of the services we offer.  Our highly rated maternity services welcomed more than 4000 babies into the world last year, all with one to one midwife care.  Our hardworking housekeeping and infection control teams kept our hospital exceptionally clean - we have one of the lowest rates of hospital acquired infection in the region and our local community play an important role in helping us run our hospital through the work of the Patient Panel.

Our main hospital has a 24 hour Accident and Emergency department to deal with life threatening conditions.

There are exciting plans for a new build, starting with a brand new Elective Centre near the new 7a junction of the M11.

We’re delighted that you are considering coming to PAH to do your Foundation Training.  Some things to consider about Foundation Training at PAH -

Excellent Salary plus fringe allowance.
No night shifts for FY1s
2 accessible Foundation Programme Directors who each hold one ‘open’ clinic per month, so that you can either call or drop in to discuss any issues relating to your job / pay / training etc.
Foundation support for e-portfolio  -  small group training at induction and continual support and prompting throughout the year.
‘Pharmacy Five Minute’ session each week just before teaching.

We have a dedicated Medical Education Centre with a committed Medical Education Team to support your education and training.  Part of the facilities includes a simulation room and a clinical skills lab.  We have an excellent Library on site and IT / Study facilities including a day Mess.

Feedback from FY1 Trainee in December 2016. ‘I just wanted to highlight how pleasant and educational my Geriatric rotation at Ray ward has been.  My Clinical Supervisor  and the rest of the team were really helpful throughout  the placement.  My Clinical Supervisor  was  never short of going the extra mile to teach the junior doctors and always found time in his busy schedule to teach , support and guide us in any means possible whether  medical or non-medical issues.  It was an honour working with him and the rest of the team , his support and care actually helped me to be a better doctor and person in general. I will forever be grateful to him.’

Why not give us a call and come and have an informal visit?  We’d be happy to spend time with you to give you a feel for the place.  We’ll   give you a tour and gather a few FY1’s to have a coffee and a chat.

Location of PAH – just 30 minutes from London Liverpool Street Station – Closest ‘Essex Beds & Herts’ Trust to London and 15 minutes from Harlow to Stansted Airport.

Strong Mess Committee with lots of social events arranged. Christmas and Summer Balls to name a couple.

Come to PAH – we care!  We’re kind, we’re nice and you’ll have fun!
