The main objectives of the board are to manage strategy and quality. Subgroups of the training committee will be set up in due course.


  • Pilot and research new teaching methods starting with High Fidelity Simulation to deliver skills using simulated disaster scenarios in general and interventional settings on high fidelity physiological mannequins (Sim Men, Meti simulators), participating with Radiography and radiology nurses
  • Generic training for Year 4 and 5 (monthly, patient communication, pensions, train the trainers)
  • Educational Supervisors Masters level training
  • Trainee support — patient interaction, CVs and interviews, evaluating consultant posts, organising private practice

Rotation Structure:

  • Disseminate good and innovative practice and ensure improvement are not at the cost of existing excellence
  • SWOT analysis of various settings
  • Future of training in interventional radiology and role of the proposed Interventional networks


  • To take forward research into educational methods and to promote doctorate level research for trainees not in a dedicated academic post


  • Explore new sources of funding for innovation and training to support Educational Supervisors training at Masters level
  • Enable High Fidelity Simulation in interventional and general radiology

Trainee Support:

  • Trainees with specific needs — central resource for assessment, counselling, management. Additional support for specific settings
  • Review of specific learning agreement in each setting
  • Assessment tools currently under development by the RCR with the RCP.

Educational Expertise:

  • Commission and develop MA or MSc in Medical Education 30 credits module specific for radiology trainers from Universities for Educational Supervisors.

Quality Assurance for the General Medical Council (GMC)

Collect data such as examination pass rates, study day attendance rates, qualifications of trainers for the Deanery to meet quality assurance requirements of the GMC who monitor and inspect to ensure adequate quality assurance measures are in place

  • Ensure training for Educational Supervisors
  • Collation of feedback from trainee assessments (Annual Review of Competence Progression — ARCP)
  • Review Portfolios and Log Books (electronic)
  • Promote the use of e-learning programs
  • RCR Radiology Accreditation Programme
  • Undertake targeted visits where necessary
  • Promote the National Training Surveys
