Welcome to Histopathology

Histopathology in the East of England

All trainees start their training programme at the ST1 School at either the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke's) or the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) NHS Foundation Trust. Trainees then rotate:

If ST1 at Cambridge University Hospital then on to the south rotation (Lister, Chelmsford, Harlow and Basildon) and then back to Addenbrooke's for 6 months in ST3 for attachments in Neuropathology, Paediatric pathology and molecular pathology before rotating out to a DGH or continue in Addenbrooke's for the final two years.

If ST1 at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust then on to the north rotation (Peterborough, West Suffolk  or Ipswich) for at least 12 months, before back to Addenbrooke's for 6 months in ST3 for attachments in Neuropathology, Paediatric pathology and molecular pathology before rotating out to a DGH or NNUH for the final two years.

Rotations within the east of England will be aligned to  trainees' individual requirements according to the outcomes of their training assessments.

Research-funded trainees on Out of Programme Experience (OOPR) are also accommodated within the training programme. Currently there are four Specialist Registrars within the scheme undertaking such experience.

We wish all prospective ST1 applicants good luck in getting through the selection criteria for admission to the ST1 run-through training programme in Histopathology.

Please contact Sarah Lower regarding possible rotations that we could offer to  FY1s and FY2s. We welcome all formal and informal queries about the nature of the Training Programme in the East of England.
