The Educational Supervisors:  Sue Plummer: I qualified from Newcastle University in 1996 and have been an educational supervisors on the Norwich scheme since 2001. I am a partner in the business, and some of my responsibilities include stock, training, and safeguarding. I have a PGCert in education and a level 7 in strategic leadership and executive management. I am a member of the Norfolk LDC.
I enjoy working in general practice on the NHS, and also have experience working in prisons. I believe passionately in prevention and in 2015 I began the "happy smiles club", which is a project that works alongside the community giving advice to primary schools, sure start centers,  and residential homes promoting good oral health. We were awarded he "Bright smiles, bright futures award for community engagement "in 2016 at the BDA conference.

Adam Levene: I have been a joint educational supervisor on the Norwich scheme since 2015. Originally from London I moved to Norwich following my BDS from King's College London in 2010. Since then I have been working in the NHS carrying out evidence based dentistry. With a drive for providing good quality dentistry I have a specific interest in endodontics and have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontics and King's College London. Having experienced DFT within the last 10 years , I feel in a position to be able to help the newest graduates find that balance of transition from student to practicing dentistry without the compromise of their skills, methods or ethics. Outside of dentistry I enjoy football, running and am very amateurish at golf.

The Practices: A successful FD allocated to our tutelage would be based in our Great Yarmouth and Caister practices.
We are a successful independent NHS & Private group of practices with the following accreditations: IIP (Investors in People), NVQ III Training Centre Accreditation, ISO 9002 (Business Systems Accreditation). We have our own Nurses training school, with an intake of 12-16 new candidates per year. We have been involved with FDs since it’s inception and have currently 7 Educational supervisors within our group.
We have 10 NHS practices in Norfolk and Suffolk with 3 Private Centre’s located in Gt. Yarmouth, Norwich, and Lowestoft areas. As a group we believe we stand out from the appearance of a corporate with a much more family ethos associated with our teams. Overall the group consists 7 Partners, around 60 Associates, Specialist Orthodontists, Specialist Oral surgeon, Periodontist, Endodontist and Implantologists.
The Yarmouth practice has 9 surgeries, in a grade 2 listed building overlooking the river Yare.
The Caister practice was purpose built in 1986 and shares the premises with a GP surgery and Lloyds pharmacy. It has four surgeries.
Both practices are spacious and well equipped. We use computer records and digital radiographs. Both practices have a central decontamination suite.

The Area:  Both the Caister and Great Yarmouth practices are located along the east coast approximately 20 miles from Norwich City centre. Majority of the dentists working at these locations commute from Norwich itself. Demographic in the Caister practice is a mixed with many families attending as well as an ageing local community. Majority of the patients are relatively stable. Great Yarmouth is a more mixed demographic from low needs to high needs cases.

Other Points of Interest: Accommodation has never been a problem  FDs, either sharing houses in the City or living in affordable accommodation provided by the practice. Rent is low, even in the city, we can give advice on finding suitable property.  Even for people who know nothing of the area, the practice group provides the perfect opportunity for FDs to gain experience and enjoy the year in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere with young dentists and staff in a non corporate environment.

Events:

  • Regular Practice Meetings with interesting topics
  • Study Groups
  • Peer Review
  • Clinical Audits
