Becoming a Health Visitor 

Health visitors are nurses or midwives who are passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing illness. They work with families to give pre-school age children the best possible start in life.

Applying for Health Visitor Training in the East of England

Health visitor training in the east of England covers the following counties: 

  • Norfolk 
  • Suffolk 
  • Hertfordshire 
  • Bedfordshire 
  • Cambridgeshire
  • Essex

If you are a qualified nurse or midwife and are interested in working as a health visitor in the community, service providers across the east are recruiting from January onwards for a September intake. You can apply to be a student health visitor via the NHS Jobs website or you find out more by contacting your local service provider, for key contacts, please click here.

The post offers a fully-funded, one-year full time or two year part time degree programme to gain the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification. Successful applicants will receive a salary while training, equivalent to Agenda for Change Band 5.

The course is split equally between university and practice placement with a health visitor team.

Recruitment is managed via the service providers, so in order to be accepted for a funded place on a training course you need to apply to the relevant organisation.
