Programme Overview

ImageThe programme has about sixty trainees with eleven Training Practices and 26 General Practice Trainers. 18 months are spent in hospital posts and 18 months in primary care. Around half of our annual intake of learners are placed in primary care for their first six months of ST1 and complete their GP training  in their ST3 year.

We support flexible trainees and part time working (LTFT) when we can for those whose personal or family circumstances make full time training impractical; in hospital posts this is achieved through job sharing arrangements.

The Hospital Attachment:

Hospital posts available for rotations include A&E, EAU, Paediatrics, O&G, Medicine, ENT/Eyes, Orthopaedics / Urology, and Psychiatry. In addition the programme offers three innovative posts, these being Palliative Care, Women's Health, and Dermatology/ Rheumatology; these may replace a hospital post and include three sessions per week working in primary care.

General Practice Attachment:

There are around twenty Registrar posts available. We place a high priority on regular teaching surgeries, communication skills acquisition and tutorials. The mandatory out of hours (OOH) experience is provided via sessions with the Partnership of East London Co-operatives (PELC).

Half-Day Release Course:

The weekly half-day release programme runs via Spring, Summer and Autumn terms, and is structured to complement and reinforce practice based learning whilst addressing RCGP curriculum topics not so easily covered in experiential settings.

Residential Course:

We hold one residential two day course a year, usually held over two days in the  Autumn. These provide an opportunity to tackle more substantial topics as well as having fun, team-building activities, not to mention a break from front-line patient care! Recent venues have included
