The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Scheme is a mixed rural and urban scheme. Lincoln itself is where most of the study days happen, at the County Hospital. Lincoln is a city with a magnificent cathedral and castle. Lincoln is a thriving university city and has a new medical school as well as a large cinema, theatre and many clubs, bars and restaurants. Nottingham is a large modern university city with a medical school and with plenty of entertainment and clubs and restaurants.

Our skills centre is located at the Kings Mill Hospital near Mansfield. As well as a dedicated phantom head room, the centre boasts a dental haptic suite, the only postgraduate dental haptic suite in the UK. The scheme prides itself on being friendly and inclusive. Dental Foundation Training is about preparing you for independent practice. You already have a huge amount of knowledge and some skills. Your time in practice with the support of an educational supervisor and experienced team will develop these enormously and build your confidence. The study days are an opportunity to share experiences with fellow foundation dentists in a safe high trust environment. Discussing our experiences and feelings that come out of those experiences is vital to getting the most from the year. There will also be subject experts to facilitate and deliver further teaching, but these days are very much about interaction.

I have been the Training Programme Director for the scheme since 2010. I first became involved in Foundation Training, or Vocational Training as it was previously known, when I was a trainee himself in 1989. In 2001 I became a Vocational Trainer. I have always been passionate about learning and education and completed a Master’s in clinical education in 2007. I work part time in general practice in Lincoln and have a special interest in Endodontics. I am also a lead for the Performer List by Validation Experience and a Dental Practice Advisor for NHSE&I. I am currently a board member of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK).

I look forward to welcoming you to the scheme.
