Jayne Hiley
Jayne is a Registered Nurse who qualified in 1982 at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Following registration, Jayne undertook a number of Post Graduate studies and specialised in Haematology working in a variety of acute sector roles until securing a Practice Nurse post within a GP training practice in Sheffield.
Since 1993 Jayne has lived in North East Essex and from 1995 to 2000 worked as a Practice Nurse in General Practice in Harwich, then as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner following completion of a Master’s Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Essex.
With the emergence of Primary Care Groups (PCG) in 1999/2000 Jayne secured a Board position on Tendring PCG as Nurse Representative and was subsequently appointed as Clinical Governance Manager for Tendring Primary Care Trust (PCT). Since that time, Jayne as secured a number of senior management posts within PCTs including Assistant Director of Primary Care and was responsible for the negotiation and delivery of the new General Practice, General Dental and General Ophthalmology Contracts. She was also the responsible officer for the GP Quality and Outcome Framework validation.
In 2002 Jayne was appointed by the then East of England SHA; accountable to the Deanery, as GP Tutor for the Tendring patch. In this role Jayne predominantly supported GPs post graduate education and took the lead for implementing GP appraisals within the Tending area. Jayne has also worked with many local practices in supporting them to achieve training status and in making primary care sustainable.
Jayne completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education in 2005 and is committed to the development and sustainability of primary care.
Baz Kuppuswamy
He graduated in Chennai, India in 1998. He has acquired experience in eclectic fields of medicine being particularly interested in MSK and dermatology.
He is always happy to ‘boast’ that he is a product of the Colchester VTS scheme and graduated as GP in 2009. He is familiar with the GP exams and assessments in the current format having done this himself.
He is happy to be approached for a formal or informal chat.
Outside of medicine, he likes playing tennis and badminton. He ‘claims’ that tennis is his new passion.
Qurat Rizvi
Qurat graduated in 2003 in Pakistan. She registered in the UK in 2010. She finished her GP training in Colchester in 2016. She has been in Colchester since 2014 and never went back to London. She is familiar with the area and the Colchester training. She is passionate about training and decided to be a trainer in 2017. She joined the Colchester VTS scheme as a TPD in February 2023. She is working as a GP Partner at one of the local surgeries.
Qurat has 3 kids and she fully enjoys her different roles in life.
North East Essex is a beautiful and diverse semi-rural and coastal locality with many attractions to suit all tastes and budgets. The area has a number of small, pretty hamlets and villages and Blue Flag beaches. Plus the larger main towns Clacton and Harwich, and the city of Colchester.
As Britain’s oldest recorded town, Colchester is steeped in history with its roman heritage and the eleventh century built Norman castle situated in the town centre. Harwich has a fascinating maritime history and on the other hand Clacton is a typical English seaside town.
Consequently, the GP practice populations are different across the area with a high demographic of elderly and retired people, higher levels (some significant) of deprivation, as well as pockets of affluent areas. There is also a very high seasonal variation in population numbers in the coastal areas. This offers a tremendous variety of training experience and lots of potential post completion of training for our trainees, with fantastic on-going employment and social opportunities.
Colchester has a rapidly developing busy city centre with regional acclaim for its shopping and increasingly its restaurants and dining. The ‘Arts Centre’ in a former church is a renowned music and comedy venue, hosting many major acts on their UK tours. Firstsite and The Minories are contemporary art galleries with regular exhibitions of public involvement. Plus the zoo and Colchester United football stadium provide great opportunities for family outings.
The surrounding countryside is very pretty, with quaint villages and historic artist spots such as Flatford Mill and Dedham Vale, which the painter John Constable made famous. The area is extremely popular with walkers and bird watchers.
Families and coastal enthusiasts are very well accommodated for in the area with the blue flag beaches at Brightlingsea, Dovercourt Bay, Walton on the Naze and Frinton.
Colchester has excellent transport links via rail to London (50 minutes) and Norwich (1 hour) and road via A12 to M25 (40 minutes).
