Description of opportunity | Neurofeedback training is a relatively new cognitive rehabilitation treatment which is finding application in a range of psychiatric disorders. The technique involves using a near-infrared spectroscope accurately placed on the head to provide real time information of brain activation in the cortical area directly below. This information is fed back to patients (neurofeedback) who are then trained to voluntarily increase brain activation. Sessions involve applying the technique to patients with different disorders as part of ongoing research studies of the treatment’s effects. Trainees will initially spend some time acquiring the technical skills involved before treating patients. All cases are supervised by Dr Dannhauser. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills administering a novel non-medication cognitive rehabilitation technique. Apart from learning and contributing to the development of the technique, you will also gain advanced computing skills, and have the opportunity to get involved in ongoing research. |
