The Educational Supervisors:   Julia Hallam-Seagrave: I qualified in Birmingham in 2000.  I completed my VT year in Rutland and then stayed as a GDP in that practice until 2006.  During that time I undertook postgraduate training in Orthodontics to become a dentist with special interest in Orthodontics.  In 2006 I was appointed as a Senior Dental Officer for Peterborough Salaried Dental Service based at the Dental Access Centre, treating urgent patients and also carrying out special care dentistry.  In 2008 I was appointed clinical lead for the service.  I am a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and passed the  Diploma in Special Care Dentistry at The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2011. In 2014 I was awarded a Masters in Medical Education from the University of Bedfordshire.  I am also treasurer of the Kesteven and Holland BDA section and a committee member of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire LDC.

Dorota Moscicka-Synowiec: I qualified in Poland  from Medical University in Bialystok in 1996. I completed my  VT year in dental practice in Warsaw  than I  worked in  the mixed  dental practices  for next 9 years  as GDP.
In 2005 I came  over  to England as a part of government recruitment program  to work  for NHS  as a dentist .
I have been working  at Peterborough Dental Access Centre  for  over 9 years. At the beginning  I did mainly emergency  treatment    but letter I got involved  in peadiatric  XGA  sessions at   PCH  and  planned treatment for  children under Inhalation Sedation. In the meantime (2008-11) I used to work ( 2 days a week) in general dental practice in Spalding.  In Jan 2015 I started  my Pg Cert in Dental Education at Bedfordshire University.

The Practice: Peterborough Dental Access Centre is a five surgery city centre clinic.  The centre provides urgent dental care to people with dental emergencies who do not have their own dentist and also special care dentistry to vulnerable groups including adults and children with learning disabilities, physical disability, sensory disability and behavioural issues. The dentists involved in special care dentistry also work from the hospitals in Peterborough providing dental care under general anaesthetic.

The team includes a clinical lead dentist,six dentists including a FD, a practice manager, nurse team leader and eleven qualified dental nurses.  Five of the dental nurses have qualifications in Dental Radiography,one nurse is trained in fluoride varnish application and one dental nurse has an Oral Heath Education qualification.  All of the team under take mandatory training on topics such as infection control, health and safety, medical emergencies and child protection.

The surgeries are all equipped to a very high standard, one surgery has a bariatric dental suite.  The records are computerised and internet access is available in each surgery.  The clinic also has an OPG machine.

The Area: Peterborough is an expanding Cathedral city with a population of approximately 165,000 people. The city has good shopping areas, a cinema, theatres and various sports facilities.   There are also excellent rail links to London (50 minutes) and the North.  The surrounding countryside allows for participation in cycling, rambling, fishing and horse-riding.

Points of Interest: The Dental Access Centre was named British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme Practice of the Year 2009. In 2006-2007, the FD won a regional prize for her achievements and in 2017 the current FD won a postgraduate prize in restorative dentistry.
