Regional Cardiothoracic Teaching Programme

This is an educational programme mapped to the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Project syllabus for Cardiothoracic Surgery to facilitate revision for the FRCS CTh examinations

The teaching is organised as half day sessions once per month. The majority are lecture based, each around a theme across the breadth of adult cardiac, thoracic, congenital cardiac and cardiothoracic transplantation

There will be 2 wet lab sessions per year with a high consultant:trainee ratio. These will be based at Royal Papworth and will be aimed at trainees at initial, intermediate and final levels.

There will also be human cadaveric training offered, based at The Evelyn Cambridge Surgical Training Centre

All surgical registrars, SHOs and Advanced Nurse Practitoners are invited to attend regional teaching.

Attendance is recorded and trainees are expected to attend at least 10 of the 12 annual sessions.

The timetable will be circulated by email each month by the Senior trainee responsible for organising the programme
