GMC Specialty Programmes and Posts Approvals

GMC Specialty Programmes and Posts Approvals

The General Medical Council (GMC) is the statutory body responsible for the approval of training programmes and posts relating to medical education and training including postgraduate.  Trainee doctors must follow a GMC approved curriculum in approved training posts and training programmes in order to gain a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).  The process for approval of training programmes and locations can be found on the GMC website using the link http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/approval_post_and_programme.asp

HEEoE undertakes this process for all its training programmes.  This involves:

Completion of Form A for a new specialty/sub-specialty programme

Completion of Form B for a new training location to an existing programme

Confirmation from the relevant Royal College of their approval of the changes to the programmes once Form A or B have been completed

Further details can be found on the GMC website using http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/27031.asp
