Chelmsford GPST Programme

About the Programme

The Chelmsford General Practice Specialist Training Programme is based at Broomfield Hospital with some GP specialist training posts based at The Linden Centre, The Crystal Centre and Farleigh Hospice. Specialist training posts exist in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Care of the Elderly, Medicine, Accident & Emergency, ENT, Oncology, Respiratory Medicine and Psychiatry.

Our aim is to produce flexible rotations to suit individual needs. The three year rotation culminates with the year in General Practice where you will continue your learning and take the MRCGP exams, passing which, will allow you to practice as a General Practitioner. Throughout the three years of the Scheme, trainees attend the half-day educational teaching based at the Medical Academic Unit (MAU) at Broomfield Hospital on Wednesdays from 2pm to 5pm.

The programme is varied and enjoyable, ranging from traditional medical topics to alternative medicine and debate on current political issues in the NHS. Towards the end of the academic year there is a Residential Course, at present held in Madingley Hall set in magnificent gardens just four miles from the centre of Cambridge and a mere 60 minutes from London. The content of the course varies according to needs and demand, but is always great fun and there is time to explore the hall and garden facilities.

I

Training Programme Director - Dr Saadet Lauble
Chelmsford has a thriving GP specialty training scheme and is currently supported by 16 excellent local training practices. I have been a Training Programme Director at this GPST scheme since 2011. As a GP, I understand the value of the Primary Care clinician and the significant role General Practice plays in the modern NHS. As an educator, it is my primary goal to facilitate learning in supportive environments, whether this is in Primary or Secondary care settings. I am keen to nurture the next generation of engaged, hard-working, innovative and robust GPs in order to sustain everything that is good about the NHS and to help us strive for even better service provision in the future.
Training Programme Director - Dr Bassey Okon

Having completed my GP training in Chelmsford, I stayed locally and did locum work in the area while doing my Post Graduate studies in Medical and Healthcare Education.

As an ex-trainee from the Chelmsford training scheme, I have used the current assessment system, completed the e-portfolio, and sat both the AKT and SCA exams.  This provides experience and insight into the lived experienced of being a GP trainee in the Chelmsford location. From this, I have insight into the strengths and barriers to the training that trainees may experience.

I became a full time partner and GP trainer at my previous training practice Beauchamp House Surgery in Chelmsford in 2011.  I therefore understand the scope of work involved as well as the changes posed being a GP.

I broadened my educational commitments and was appointed as a TPD in Chelmsford in 2014.  I am committed to delivering and improving the quality of trainees in the scheme, to keep our trainees motivated to enable them to enjoy their time in training whilst working hard to achieve their goals.

Training Programme Director - Dr Sunil Gupta

I have been a GP in Benfleet, Essex since 1995.  I have been a TPD at the Chelmsford GPST scheme since August 2015 and I am also a GP Trainer and an Examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners.  I have various other clinical, commissioning and educational roles.

I am very interested in helping doctors gain knowledge, skills and confidence to become the GPs of the future.

I look forward to working with you all in the future.
